A medical oncologist treats cancer using chemotherapy or other medications, such as targeted therapy or immunotherapy.
A surgical oncologist is a surgeon who has special training in treating cancer. Your surgical oncologist may be called in to diagnose cancer with a biopsy. Surgical oncologists also treat cancer by removing tumors or other cancerous tissue.
Imaging tests used in diagnosing cancer may include a computerized tomography (CT) scan, bone scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) scan, ultrasound and X-ray, among others. 3. Radiation therapy, as a primary treatment in cases where surgery isn't an option.
A combination of treatment as per doctor’s decision can be considered.
Trimodality therapy, the treatment approach includes TURBT (Transurethral resection of bladder tumour) chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
It is done to preserve the bladder in certain cases of the muscle-invasive disease. If cancer remains if it recurs surgeon may recommend a radical cystectomy.

Consultation and treatment required for Rectim Cancer Stage T-3
Stage III rectal cancers have spread to nearby lymph nodes but not to other parts of the body.
Stage III rectal cancer will be treated with Neo adjuvant therapy - chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. But chemo radiation will be given or not depends on general condition of patient, type and stage of cancer mainly. If patient’s general condition is poor than surgery may be the initial treatment.
After surgery, either both chemo and radiation is given if it was not given before surgery or only chemo is given, usually for about 6 months. Your doctor will recommend the one best suited to your health needs.
Targeted therapies have shown a benefit for selected patients with advanced rectal cancer.
Depending on where the cancer is in the rectum choice of surgery is done. If the cancer has reached nearby organs, a more extensive operation can be needed. When possible, the surgery will allow a patient to continue to pass waste through the anus. Some patients, however, may require a temporary or permanent colostomy (an artificial opening that allows waste to pass from the colon to the outside of the body).
In order to achieve best results from treatment and to improve quality of patient’s life, it is very important that side effects resulting from cancer and its treatment are well managed. An artificial opening that allows waste to pass needs understanding and managing. Dealing with day to day activities, depression due to disease is important.Consult an oncologist. Hope our answer helps you.

Sir, my mother is 44. she has done USG and FNAC test. USG report seem that Fibroadenoma and FNAC report seem that ductal carcinoma. now what can i do? kindly give me a suggesation please.
Hello Mithun,
Surgery is the main treatment for DCIS. The most common type of breast cancer is ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), indicating the cancer cell growth starts in the milk ducts.
The goal of therapy for DCIS is to prevent the development of invasive breast cancer. Therapeutic approaches include surgery, radiation therapy, and adjuvant endocrine therapy.
Patients with DCIS undergo local treatment with breast-conserving therapy (BCT) or mastectomy. BCT consists of lumpectomy (also called breast-conserving surgery, wide excision, or partial mastectomy) followed in most cases by adjuvant radiation.
Patients found to have invasive or micro-invasive disease at surgery should be managed accordingly. Although mastectomy achieves excellent long-term survival with a local recurrence rate on the order of 1 per cent, it provides overly aggressive treatment for many women.
BCT has less morbidity but is associated with a higher risk of local recurrence.
Hormone therapy and radiation therapy are adjuvant therapies if needed considered. Consult an oncologist for further guidance.
Hope my answer helps you.

One of my Family Member was diagnosed with Stage 3C Colon Cancer in October 2017. Later on he had a cancer relapse in October 2018. Post which he was on Palliative Chemo. Now the cancer is in Stage 4, but has not yet affected vital organs such as Lungs, Pancreas, Liver & Brain. The doctors have said that now, surgery is not possible and has given oral chemo. We wish to now consult a Mumbai based oncologist and continue his treatment over there. Request us to guide us about the best doctors available and how to take his/her appointment ?

17th April, 2019 at 12:54 pm
Hello Bernard,
Prostate cancer treatment depends on the Stage and Grade of Cancer in the patient. The treatment options are given below:
· Surgery
· Radiation therapy
· Hormone therapy
· Cryotherapy
· Chemotherapy
· Immunotherapy
The patient might have to undergo any one of these treatments or mix of any of these. This is because almost every type of cancer has a preset guideline and treatment regimen which is set internationally. So, it’s better you consult an oncologist quickly.
We hope the information helps you.

What is the stage and grade in cancer disease and what's difference between them

16th April, 2019 at 04:20 pm
Hello Sunil,
When solid tumours are diagnosed, they are assigned as a grade and a stage. The grade of a tumour is the cancer grade which is an indication of how quickly it is likely to spread and grow and the stage of a solid tumour refers to its size or extent and whether or not it has spread to other organs and tissues.
The various stages of cancer are as follows:
Stage 0- It means there’s no cancer, only abnormal cells with the potential to become cancer.
Stage 1- It means the cancer is small and only in one area.
Stage 2- It means the cancer is larger and has grown into nearby tissues or lymph nodes.
Stage 4-The cancer has spread to other parts of our body. It’s also called advanced or metastatic cancer.
The various grades of cancer are as follows:
Grade 1- The cancer cells resemble normal cells and is not growing rapidly.
Grade 2- Cancer cells that don’t look like normal cells and are growing faster than normal cells.
Grade 3- Cancer cells that look abnormal and may grow or spread more aggressively.
Hope this information was useful and helpful to you and has resolved your query.

Hello Parvinder,
I am assuming that you are talking about the increase of broncho vascular markings in the lungs. It indicates that the pH level in your lungs goes below 7.3 and it can cause the enlargement of the heart (Cardiomegaly). So I would advise you to meet your local Pulmonologist.
Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Hello Chandrashekar, the closest metropolitan city to Raipur is Mumbai. My opinion to you would be that you shouldn't get your sister's treatment done in B Grade Cities because of the following reasons:
1) They wont have very experienced doctors.
2) They would lack the advanced technologies that hospitals in major metro cities like Mumbai would have.
3) They don't have good clinical results on cancer patients.
If you want to get treated in Mumbai, you have options according to your preferences. If you are looking for an economical option and don't mind a long waiting time then Tata Memorial Centre(Parel) is where you should go.
If you can afford costly treatment and don't want to compromise on the quality of treatment then go for Fortis Hospital (Mulund) or S L Raheja Hospital (Mahim). In Fortis Hospital and S L Raheja Hospital you can consult Padma Shri, Dr. Suresh Advani who has over 45 years of experience.
Regarding the cost of treatment, we cannot tell you exactly how much it costs as it depends on what type of treatment your sister will receive. She might receive chemotherapy, radiation therapy or a combination of both. So you will know about the cost after the doctor decides what treatment she will have to undergo.
