Kidney Transplant is a treatment done when your kidney fails to function properly. So, a healthy kidney is transplanted inside you if it is from the same blood group of any family member.

The successful Kidney Transplant in India will help you lead a very active life for both the donor and the recipient.

On a positive side, there’s no such rule as of what you should eat and drink post-surgery but obviously you are expected maintain a healthy diet. Studies have proven that individuals with kidney transplants have a longer survival rate than individuals on dialysis.

Why Kidney Transplant in India?

Below, we have discussed why Renal failure patients from across the globe come for kidney transplant in India with hopes of getting a new life.

We all know that India beats other nations in terms of quality medical services and affordability. Here, you get top-notch medical services from the initial pre-care stage till the time of follow up post-kidney transplant. In recent times, India has reached the top position as far as medical tourism is concerned specially organ transplant like kidney transplant in india.

Obviously, you’ll get to visit one of the most diverse nation of the world, that being the major attraction. Additionally, there are other appealing reasons, for example, the cost. The kidney transplant cost in India is almost one fifth or even less when compared to any western country with success rate being at par with best medical centers in the world.

It is about the personalised experience when you travel to another country for any medical treatment; and with India's very experienced and dedicated surgeons and the other medical staff, you can be rest assured you'll get the best and remarkable treatment possible.

As a matter of fact, the stay in the hospital while recovering from kidney transplant surgery would be longer in India and keeping in mind that you may consider this to be a pitfall, but it isn't; your odds of a full recovery post-surgery with no problems or side effects enhances ten times, particularly being taken care of by medical specialists. The surgeons are trained at best medical schools of the world and have the expertise to perform a successful kidney transplant in India.

Also, language can be a constraint for many people when they travel to another country. However, India’s second official language is English. In this manner, you can rest guaranteed that you won't experience any lingual barriers. The hospitals in India have a committed staff who enable you to convey your inquiries and request to your specialist.

What are the techniques of Kidney Transplant Procedure in India?

  1. Open Nephrectomy :
  2. This is a traditional technique for kidney transplant in India used across many hospitals in the country. Here the surgeon makes a larger incision of about 6-8 inches in the right side of abdominal after which the surgeon will place the donor kidney inside and connects your veins and arteries with it. Even the new kidney’s ureter is attached to your bladder.

Usually, the original diseased kidney is not removed from your body unless and until there are chances of any infection or high blood pressure. However, this entire process results in longer hospital stay. As there is a larger scar, it takes a longer time to heal.

  3. Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy :
  4. In contrast to open nephrectomy, during laparoscopic surgery, a small camera is inserted that is passed through a series of small incisions or “ports” in your abdominal wall (stomach) and the entire dissection of the kidney is done laparoscopically. The kidney is taken out by a small 3-4 inches incision down in the lower part of the abdomen. It’s a small incision through which kidney is delivered out.

And the best part is that it heals naturally. There is no pain, scarring or herniation. Therefore, it is one of the best forms of kidney transplantation.

  5. Robotic Kidney Transplant :
  6. Interestingly, a new emerging technique of Robotic kidney transplant in India has been started at many hospitals. To summarize in short for you, a robotic kidney transplant is a technique in which the surgery of the recipient with the help of robot or minimal access surgery is done. In this procedure, the incision is very small. It is hardly 4-5 cm which will give a lot of benefit to the patient in terms of easy recovery. The patients can start to move or eat the very same day. In 3-4 days the hospital can discharge the patient, and the additional advantage is that the patient requires less number of painkillers. Cosmetically, it is the best technique of kidney transplant.

Secondly, because of the magnificent view of the robot, the doctors get a clear view during the surgery. The other surgery related problems such as blood loss is very less and overall patient outcome is very good after a robotic kidney transplant in India.

Is Laparoscopy a better technique than Open Donor for Kidney Transplant in India?

YES, The LDN approach has significant benefits to both donor and recipient in terms of blood loss, operative time, length of hospital stay, oral intake resumption when compared to ODN.

The hospital stay is also relatively shorter in Laparoscopic surgery. However, the higher operative cost in Laparoscopic surgery negates the cost saved in shorter hospital stay period.

Hence, the total cost of kidney transplant in India is somewhat similar in both the techniques.

Talking about the long-term kidney function, it is equivalent in both the techniques.

Nowadays, in India LDN is becoming more popular and performed more often.

Hi dear, I am from Nepal, 60 years male and am under hemodialysis since 2 years back. For the first year I was more centralized in myself and much concerned how much hemodialysis was safe. I met people under dialysis for 8 years to even 12 years. I even met few people come back a year or two after successful kidney transplant. Then , I used to think this is OK, my life expectancy was not more than 18 years then. But this winter I witnessed 4 critical deaths at my dialysis centre, which left me more unsafe and worried. Now I also am infected with HCV+ at this moment. I am a diabetic patient since 2001, Three years back I had a minor hemorrhage There is only one centre in my place where i can dialyze. So in a way I am handicapped, can not travel. Now something came up my mind, if I could find a volunteer Donner in India, the hospital fee is actually affordable. Considering all my health condition is it possible for me to perform transplant. If you see it possible please advise. Thank you. Regards. Nero
