How to remove a callus from a diabetic foot

Answered on 10th Feb '24

If you have a callus on a diabetic foot, it's essential to approach its removal with caution due to the risk of complications. Diabetic individuals are prone to foot issues, and self-treatment may lead to injuries. Instead of trying to remove the callus at home, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional, preferably a podiatrist. They can safely assess the condition, provide appropriate treatment, and offer guidance on foot care practices to prevent future issues. Regular foot checks, moisturizing, and wearing comfortable shoes are essential components of diabetic foot care

Callus from a diabetic foot has to be removed carefully because there should not be any would while removing as it is difficult for wound to heal in diabetic patients. If it has to be done at home, soak the feet in lukewarm water for 10-15 mins. Then rub it with file and then add Keratolytic agents like salicylic acid 12 to 40% in the form of paste is helpful. It can be also done professionally using surgical sterile blade by dermatologist at his clinic
