What to eat after rhinoplasty?

Immediately after rhinoplasty observe a soft diet, not too heavy for your jaw and facial muscles. Choose soups, yogurt smoothies and pureed vegetables. Add protein-rich options like eggs, tofu or mashed beans for helping healing. Drink plenty of water and herbal teas. Refrain from spicy, hard or crunchy foods during the initial recovery process to facilitate an easy healing period.

- What to eat on the day of your surgery?
- Patients are encouraged to drink juices such as celery juice, pineapple juice, or any other non-acidic juice. Your juice should not contain any pulp.
- You can also have green tea, chicken soup, porridge, and broth.
- Drinking protein shakes will encourage quicker healing of wounds, but you can have only specific types of protein shakes that a doctor will know better.
- A Day After Your Nose Surgery
- Keep foods bland till the anesthesia has exited your system.
- In this stage, you can consume foods such as apple sauce, yogurt, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, chicken soup, etc.
- The First Week for Rhinoplasty Patients
- Eat food items that are easy to chew, like mashed potatoes, oatmeal, soup, yogurt, and scrambled eggs.
- As hydration is essential, you can consume beverages like Gatorade.
- You can further expand your diet to include hydrating fruits such as watermelons, grapes, and strawberries.
- Avoid junk food, spicy food, or those rich in sodium, to prevent illness or swelling.
- Second Week After Your Rhinoplasty
- During this stage, most people can resume their regular diet as their nose has become firm, but since their internal injuries are yet to heal, thus they will have to eat healthy foods that comprise certain vitamins and minerals.
- Whole wheat spaghetti, brazil nuts, cooked brown rice, whole wheat bread, dark chocolates, chamomile, popcorn, apples, oranges, pears, cooked carrots, baked potato, boiled green peas, boiled broccoli, and spinach, etc.
- Further, we advise anti-inflammatory foods to pace recovery, such as avocado, fatty fish, extra virgin olive oil, blueberries, mushrooms, and tomatoes.
- Also, food that is rich in vitamin A - like carrots, oranges, and dark leafy greens like spinach, alongside foods that are rich in vitamin C like citrus fruits.
- Avoid junk food till your swellings entirely disappear.
- We recommend following this diet for 2 to 3 weeks post-surgery, depending on how much your injuries have healed.
Note: Consumption of alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine-based products should be avoided for at least six weeks post rhinoplasty.
- Alcohol: slows recovery and contributes to swelling.
- Smoking: can inflict damage on your throat and nose.
