Why is my 13-year-old sister experiencing chest palpitations?
Patient's Query
My sister which is 13 years old is experiencing chest palpitations, her rest heart rate is 61 when during the slightest movement or especially when standing up it raises to 100-170. She has constant fatigue and sometimes chest pain that can worsen
Answered by Dr. Bhaskar Semitha
Your sister seems to have some heart troubles. If the heart rate escalates from 61 to 100-170, particularly with motion, it might be the result of a disorder known as "postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome" (POTS), which in a person can cause fatigue and chest pain. It's vital to consult a cardiologist who can diagnose the condition and recommend the best ways to deal with it.
