Questions & Answers on "Ent Surgery" (324)
I just have an academic question. Is antibiotics for ear infection met with PPI?
Male | 19
With an ear infection, you may feel pain, pressure, and muffled hearing. Antibiotics are commonly used to cure ear problems derived from bacteria. Among the medications used to treat ear infections, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are usually not included. Moreover, you are even encouraged to consult with an ENT specialist if you suspect any ear infection, and then a proper treatment plan will be recommended.

I have pain while swallowing
Female | 25
This could happen because of a sore throat or infection. Other possibilities are acid reflux or swallowing something sharp accidentally. If it continues for several days, getting it checked is wise. Warm drinks or soft foods might provide relief. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water is crucial too. Take a break from spicy or rough textures until it passes.

Pain in back could be due to a muscle strain from lifting something heavy or even from poor posture. In fact, sometimes, even stress can cause muscle tension leading to back pain. The best thing to do right now is to try some gentle stretching exercises and apply a warm compress to the area. If the pain persists or gets worse, it's a good idea to see an orthopedist for a proper evaluation.

Hi Doctor I got throat problem because I got tube in my throat now I loss my voice I need to back my voice any medicine or something
Female | 21
Having a tube in your throat is difficult. The tube can irritate your throat tissues. This irritation makes your voice weak or gone. Many people have this problem after a tube. Your voice will return once irritation ends. Warm liquids soothe your throat and aid healing. Avoid straining your voice too much. If the problem persists, visit an ENT specialist.

I have shortness of breath sometimes during this time when I swallow my saliva I also feel something thick like moving down my throat with my saliva and during this time if am thinking too much the thing get worst and sometimes if am watching a comedy or a funny videos I feel a lot better whenever am having shortness of breath I feel nervous or scared
Female | 18
You seem to be struggling with anxiety symptoms. Quick breathing, a choking sensation, and intense worry or fear - these often occur with anxiety. Watching comedy provides a break, letting your mind relax and alleviating discomfort. To address these feelings, practice deep breaths or talk to a psychiatrist; such methods can help manage anxiety effectively.

I've been experiencing sinus problems, such as congestion, pressure, and possibly sinus infections. What could be the underlying cause, and what are my treatment options?
Female | 26
You could have sinus issues. When your sinuses are blocked or inflamed, you may end up with congestion, pressure, and even infections. The most common reasons are allergies, infections, or structural problems in your sinuses. Treatment methods can encompass nasal decongestants, saline rinses, steam inhalation, or antibiotics if there is an infection. Besides, you can also replenish the fluids in your body and use a humidifier for symptom relief. If your symptoms don't go away, you should see an ENT doctor for a proper diagnosis and a customized treatment plan.

Dear Doctor, From last couple of days i am suffering from acute pain in my throat specially while swallowing anything and also having cough with mucus but mucus is not coming out i can hear the rattling sound from my throat while coughing and after carefully examining my throat i can see that my left side of tonsil has inflammation with several white spots on it the white spots are there on both the tonsils but i can feel the extreme pain at the left side of tonsil only. I am frequently doing saline gargles but its not helping me out. Further i would request you to kindly advise some good medications for the quick relief. Thank you
Male | 41
You may be experiencing acute tonsillitis, resulting in significant discomfort while swallowing and coughing. The presence of white spots suggests a possible infection. Saline gargles are helpful, but additional treatment may be necessary. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can provide relief. Staying hydrated and using throat lozenges may also ease the pain. However, I recommend seeking a healthcare professional for a precise diagnosis and suitable medications, as they may prescribe antibiotics if a bacterial infection is present.

You've experienced ear troubles since January. Pain that comes and goes could mean a recurring infection. It's crucial to address the root cause. Keep ears dry, avoid inserting objects, try OTC pain relief. If no improvement, you should see an ENT doctor.

Hello doc, I’m fahmi from Ethiopia. I have sinus since when I was 10 and from the last 2 years it becomes so hard to breathe through my nose. I tried to change environment, the weather and different things but my nose still stuffy and closed. MRI shows I have infection on my top nose. Doctors just always gave me nasal drops for temporary relief. Now I have been using nasal drops for 2 years and sometimes it start adopting didn’t work by 2-3 drops and also some times it wants the stronger one like Oxymetazol to stay for longer like 8-10 hours. Please I need your help , thank you ????????
Male | 24
You may have chronic sinusitis. This is when your sinuses become swollen or inflamed. Breathing through your nose could become difficult because of this. Using nose drops gives temporary relief; however, they might not be helpful in the long run as the body would be used to them. It’s important to find out what causes these before suggesting remedies for them. Visit an ENT Specialist for more insight into the matter.

I had a runny nose 2 days ago so I took panadol that has 30mg pseudoephedrine. It stopped running within 1 hour. But yesterday I woke up in the middle of the night with a blocked nose and it would only clear up when I stood up. Today I still have a congested nose no mucus. When I close my mouth I can’t breathe through my nose at all
Female | 25
It sounds like you may be experiencing nasal congestion, which can result from various factors such as allergies or a mild viral infection. The blockage while lying down could be due to gravity affecting nasal drainage. Staying hydrated and using a humidifier may help ease your symptoms. Over-the-counter saline sprays are also beneficial for relieving congestion. If your symptoms persist or worsen, I recommend consulting a general physician to rule out any underlying issues.

I am having throat pain(itchy type) along with ear pain for three weeks. I have taken normal antibiotics but is not working
Male | 37
You likely have a throat infection along with ear pain. The antibiotics you refused might not have helped if it's a viral infection since antibiotics only work on bacterial infections. Throat infections can be caused by viruses like the common cold. Resting your voice, drinking warm liquids, and using throat lozenges can help. If the discomfort continues, seeing a doctor is the best choice.

First of all, I woke up with a weird feeling in my mouth. My saliva was extremely dry…I had to try take water but then I realized something shocking. It was initially tough to swallow my saliva like I had a sore throat but that wasn’t it. I felt my uvula come towards my tongue when I tried to gag. I checked the mirror and saw that my uvula got very long just overnight
Male | 24
Uvulitis is when your uvula swells up. The uvula hangs at the back of your throat. Infections, allergies, or snoring while asleep can cause it. You might feel something in your throat. Swallowing may be difficult, and your throat might hurt. Drinking lots of water helps. Gargling warm saltwater soothes. If symptoms don't go away, see an ENT specialist.

Male | 24
You are going through some issues with dry skin flakes coming out of your ears and having the feeling of your ear blocking up, even after you have been trying the Valsalva technique. This can happen when the skin in your ear canal gets irritated and sheds the flakes, which subsequently results in a blockage. You can try a gentle ear-cleaning solution to keep your ear clean and moist. If this issue keeps on persisting, you should visit an ENT doctor for more diagnostics.

Uvula inflammation problem uvula hang on tongue
Male | 17
Irritation of the uvula occurs when the tiny fleshy thing dangling at your throat's rear gets inflamed and reddened. It causes a sensation like something's stuck, tickling your throat. Infections, allergies, or excessive snoring could trigger this. To soothe it, consume chilled beverages and refrain from spicy fare. If discomfort persists, consulting an ENT specialist is advisable.

Dear Doctor, I'm an 18-year-old male. About 15-16 days ago, I had a really bad cold with symptoms including a sore throat, headache, and fever. After 7-8 days, my cold symptoms healed, but I still had a sore throat, hoarse voice, a completely blocked right ear, and I was constantly coughing up green mucus. Four days ago, I visited a doctor and was prescribed moxifloxacin 400mg once a day for 5 days (today is day 3). While my coughing has generally decreased, I still have a sore throat and my right ear is still blocked, although it did briefly open for a few minutes yesterday. This has been ongoing for three weeks, and I'm starting to lose hope as I'm not sure what I have or if I'll get better. In addition to moxifloxacin, here are the other medications I'm currently taking: Nasacort AQ (once a day) - today is day 6 Phenadone (twice a day) - today is day 8 Nexium (once a day) - today is day 6 Ganaton (three times a day) - today is day 6 Seretide Accuhaler Diskus (twice a day) - today is day 8 Polymer Adult Hypertonic 3% (twice a day) - today is day 3 Could you please help me understand what might be causing these persistent symptoms and advise on any further steps I should take? Thank you for your assistance.
Male | 18
When someone coughs up green phlegm, that means they have an infection. Your condition may be because of a stubborn bacterial infection which will need more time to completely clear up. Take your medicine as prescribed and ensure you finish the full course of antibiotics. If your symptoms continue or get worse then I think it’d be wise for you to go to an ENT specialist so they can conduct further tests on you.
