Questions & Answers on "Pulmonology" (399)

Hi there. I am asking this because I have consulted with my doctor before, and then got a second opinion with another doctor before and was told it was probably nothing due to me being so young. I was never given an answer to what is possibly going on. I started taking prescribed adderall in July 2020 for ADHD and started to experience shortness of breath about a year and a half ago. My blood pressure is never high, usually around 118/72 but my resting heart rate is usually in the 90s. The “shortness of breath” feeling is how I can describe this feeling of needing to constantly take a deep breath, and most of the time the deep breaths aren’t satisfying. I have to sometimes reposition myself and sit up straight or lean forward, etc to get a good adequate deep breath. But even when I get a good deep breath, it doesn’t satisfy me enough to stop the urge. The “short of breath” feeling pretty much persists all day, it just comes and goes. I assume it correlates with the adderall. I experimented before and stopped taking my adderall for two weeks, and the short of breath feeling stayed days after I stopped taking the adderall. It stayed over a week of me quitting the adderall, and that was a year ago when I first experienced the symptoms. So I don’t know if it’s related to the adderall, or if it’s something else. I do occasionally have heart palpitations with or without adderall, although they are harmless. I do not have palpitations during the shortness of breath episodes. I do suffer from bad seasonal allergies, but currently I haven’t been feeling any of the usual seasonal allergy symptoms so I don’t know if I’m even in season yet. I don’t know if this is allergy related but I’m on prescription allergy medicine (singulair) and it is still happening. So I was wondering if this is a cause for concern or not? Do you think this could be cardiac related, or potentially something else? My dad does have extensive cardiac history but I am young and am not worried. I just do not want to overlook any potential concerns just because of my age. I have tried asking my doctors but I don’t want to keep switching doctors and have them not take me seriously, or think I’m being a dramatic person. I just want a fair answer based on my symptoms instead of getting a “you’re young I’m sure your fine” answer.

Fever, headache and cough

Female | Pooja

Fever accompanied by a headache and cough can indicate several conditions, ranging from a common cold to a viral infection. These symptoms often arise as your body fights off pathogens. It’s essential to stay hydrated and rest. Over-the-counter medications can help alleviate discomfort. If symptoms persist for more than a few days or worsen, please consult a physician for a thorough examination and personalized care.

i am a 16 year old female. i suffer from breathing difficulties that only occur at night. it has been happening the past couple of nights. i vape. i possibly have anxiety.

Female | 16

In case you vape and feel nervous, this might be the thing that is exacerbating your distress. Vaping injures the lungs and causes breathing problems. Anxiety may also bring about a rare situation where one finds it hard to breathe. As an alternative try to keep away from as often as possible and have deep breath exercises to calm anxiety or chat with someone. If it keeps up make sure you obtain help from a healthcare professional.

I have RSV how bad is it for an adult like me I'm 37 and I started getting sick on Monday and how long does it take for it to go away and could it kill me and how long does the coughing go for and will the coughing stop in how long before this RSV will get out of my system

Female | 37

RSV causes breathing trouble for grown-ups. With a cough, runny nose, fever and hard breathing, it can be rough. But most feel better in 1-2 weeks without treatment. It rarely kills healthy adults yet can be severe for some. The annoying cough may continue for weeks after the other symptoms fade. Resting up, drinking fluids, and symptom relief medications help most recover.

Im 25 years and I have lymph node in underarms and it's slightly painful with fever doctor says it's TB but there are no as symptoms as of now

Male | 25

Lymph nodes can become sore due to infections or inflammation, and a fever indicates that your body is reacting to something. These common examples could be caused by tuberculosis, and what if there are no other signs? It’s crucial to follow your doctor's advice, as they will likely recommend tests to confirm the diagnosis. The process should include bed rest, hydration, and stress management. Please schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss your treatment options and any additional symptoms.

Is tramadol risky for a 99 year old woman? It was given to grandmother at nursing home and she started running out of breath.

Female | 99

This is especially risky for a 99-year-old woman. Tramadol may lead to respiratory problems among older adults. If she experiences any breath shortness; it is crucial to discontinue use of this drug immediately and seek medical attention. The doctor will provide necessary assistance on how to manage such symptoms as well as finding another less harmful medicine.

I am a 47 year old male i had post thyroidectomy and recently got a CT scan and it shows subcentrimetric nodules scattered in the lungs so what does that mean

Male | 47

Following your thyroid surgery and the CT scan, some small nodules were spotted in your lungs. These are very common little growths that hardly ever have any symptoms attached to them. They could have been caused by many things such as infections or past illnesses. In most cases, no action needs to be taken concerning these growths but you need to keep visiting a doctor to check up on them frequently. If you start feeling unusual in any way like continuous coughing or struggling to breathe, please inform your physician immediately.

My daughter is 12 plus .she complains of breathlessness especially during night ,after which she sleeps nicely.she had a Ceasar on jan 10 this year for the first time and the reason is still not known after all check-up. She says she had an attack when she was trying to tell us she is not able to breathe well.Since that day she is worried and little anxious that same incident might not occur. This gave us an idea of meeting a pulmonologist who can help us.kindly suggest

Female | 12

It is best to have your daughter evaluated by a pulmonologist. The pulmonologist may recommend a variety of tests to assess her breathlessness, including a chest x-ray, spirometry, a complete blood count (CBC), and a complete metabolic panel. Depending on the results of the tests, the pulmonologist will recommend additional tests, such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) or a pulmonary function test (PFT). Additionally, the doctor can recommend taking medications to help manage her symptoms. It is important to monitor her closely for any changes in her breathing patterns.

Wet coughing with chest tighness

Male | 32

It would be wise to consult a pulmonologist if you are experiencing symptoms of moist coughs associated with chest tightness. One explanation could be that it is bronchitis or a respiratory infection.

My foster father is having slight pain on his left side of chest. Since 6 months or so. I would like to know what it could be.

Male | 62

Constant light pain on the left side of the chest for a period not shorter than half and year may have many causes, starting from musculoskeletal disorders to heart-related diseases. Your foster father should also seek professional advice from a cardiologist to query through his heart history and check it out, via tests such as an ECG of X-ray for the identification of its cause. He should get prompt medical attention to rule out any serious conditions and ensure his health.
