My brother is suffering from stage II colon cancer. Kindly suggest me treatment options for the same and best oncologists in Chennai

Hello, In stage II colon cancer, cancer may have gone to nearby tissues, but they may have not spread to the lymph nodes. The treatment options for colon cancer in stage II depends upon various factors such as:

  1. Size of the tumor
  2. How far the tumor has spread
  3. The overall health of the patient

However, we have listed below the treatment options for stage II colon cancer which may be as follows:

  1. Surgery: to remove the section of the colon containing cancer (partial colectomy) along with nearby lymph nodes may be the only treatment needed.
  2. Chemotherapy: But you brother may also need adjuvant chemotherapy (chemo after surgery) if there is a higher risk of cancer coming back because of certain factors such as:
  • Cancer looks very abnormal (is high grade) when viewed under a microscope.
  • Cancer has grown into nearby blood or lymph nodes.
  • The surgeon could not remove at least 12 lymph nodes due to some risk factors.
  • Cancer was found in or near the margin (edge) of the removed tissue, meaning that some cancer may have been left behind.
  • Cancer has obstructed the colon.
  • Cancer caused a hole in the wall of the colon.

We recommend you discuss with your oncologist regarding the pros and cons of chemo including how much it might reduce your brother's risk of recurrence and what the likely side effects will be. On the following page we have listed the best oncologists from Chennai for you: Oncologists in Chennai. We hope this information helps you.

My grandfather suffering from Esophageal cancer and his age is 68 years, so what is the possible treatment for this, and which is the best caring hospital in Chennai?

Hello Sathymoorthy, The treatment for any cancer always depends on the age of the patient, stage of cancer, associated comorbidities, and patient's general condition. After a routine blood test, endoscopy, biopsy, Barium swallow test, EUS (endoscopic ultrasound), CT SCAN, PET scan are done. Once the type of cancer and the stage of cancer is evaluated the treatment is planned. The treatment includes surgery that is the removal of the affected part. Sometimes chemo is done prior and after to reduce the size of the tumour. After surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Photodynamic therapy (In this non surgical procedure doctor injects a special substance into the esophagus making cells extra sensitive to light and then with help of an endoscope that has a laser at the end, the surgeon destroys cancer cells by burning them) are given as per doctors clinical expertise and patient's health. Very important is to be a part of the rehabilitation group. They will guide the patient and help him to handle the mental trauma person suffers due to cancer, will help through the treatment and follow up with professional help. Please consult an oncologist and let him evaluate the case and give you the best of treatment. Here we have listed a few best cancer hospitals in Chennai: 1.) Adyar Cancer Institute (Government Hospital). 2.) Apollo Cancer Institute (Private Hospital). 3.) Christian Medical College and Hospital (Charitable Hospital). 4.) Royapettah Government Hospital (Government Hospital). 5.) Gleneagles Global Hospital (Private Hospital). Wish your father a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you. My father age 78 years. His problem is swellowing . Metastatic oesophageal cancer is found in CT scan.we know that he cannot survive the chemotherepy. Small dose radiotherepy is completed but till now problem is as before radiation. Please guide me immunotherepy can be option for us.

Hello Sushil,

For an esophageal cancer, immunotherapy is definitely one of the options for your father.

If he is in the advanced stage he will be given Pembrolizumab, a drug used for this treatment and effective as long as he has had 2 prior treatments, including chemotherapy.

But if you say chemotherapy might be life threatening for him it is better if you visit a medical oncologist to see if this will be the best line of treatment for your father or not. It would be of great help if you can send all the health and test reports till date to give a better informed decision. Following page lists some of the best oncologists in India - Oncologist In India. Hope our answer helps.

My mother is suffering Gallbladder cancer in stage 4, we would like to discuss about her treatment.

Hello, In stage 4 Gallbladder cancer, the cancer has grown into one of the main blood vessels leading into the liver, or into lymph nodes or organs further away from the gallbladder. This stage is usually not treated with surgery, but the doctor may suggest it to relieve the symptoms caused by cancer blocking the biliary system. Also, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are used to relieve the symptoms. Immunotherapy is not a defined treatment for gallbladder cancer but it's still under the testing phase. But to decide the treatment Doctor will need additional testing. Also, will have to see what the prior treatment has been given. Hope our answer helps you. You can find more doctors on our page to discuss regarding her treatment - Oncologist In India.

My family member suffering from a Left Insular lesion Diffuse Astrocytoma (WHO grade), a Brain tumor. Brain surgery is done 3 months back. At AIIMS Jodhpur. Recent after MRI reports, Doctors advised for Radiotherapy May you please suggest/guide me for the best treatment or radiotherapy center in India. In addition, Immunotherapy/dendritic cell therepy is better compare to radiotherapy & chemo. Which are the best/top hospitals (Govt./Private) in India? What is the cost of Radio/Immunotherapy?

  • Some types of brain tumors grow at a greater speed while others grow slowly. Depending on all the factors, your brain tumor treatment will be recommended by the doctor. Since the surgery has already been already done, therefore the standard treatment could be radiotherapy with the tamazolamide tablet.
  • Dendritic cell-based immunotherapy is an approach where the patient's immune system is boosted to fight cancer. It is a very expensive treatment and approved for stage 4 only. You cannot compare the treatments as for different cancer types and stages, different treatments have been set according to the international standards. Who qualifies for immunotherapy is someone whose cancer is in stage 4, and that too as a last resort if other treatments didn't work.
  • The radiotherapy cost (SRS) ranges from about 4,00,000 to 5,00,000 and the immunotherapy cost is approximately 4,00,000.
  • Please find yourself the list of best hospitals on our page - Cancer Hospitals in India.

Hope this answer helps you.
