Raising your legs after sclerotherapy is often advised to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment and reduce any potential unwanted side effects. Raising the legs reduces swelling and encourages good blood flow, hence helps in absorbing sclerosant that has been injected into veins and prevents blood from collecting the treated ones. - Elevate your legs as frequently as possible for the next 2 weeks, and only when you are not wearing stockings.
- Wearing stockings and simultaneously raising your legs may decrease blood circulation in your feet, thus resulting in severe foot pain
- You may have to raise your feet at least 3 to 4 times a day, for a duration of 15 minutes at once.
- When laying down, rest your legs on the pillows in such a manner that your legs will be raised at least 6 inches above your chest.
- If you will be required to sit or stand for longer duration, then flexing (bending) your legs frequently can help maintain blood circulation.
- Lifting legs can help reduce can relieve swelling and various other symptoms.
- However, elevating legs will have no impact, either positive or negative, on the appearance of varicose veins.
- Elevation of legs aside, there are other ways of dealing with the treatment induced pain as well.
