3.2-year-old Aabir was not being his usual self in the early winter of 2020. The happy, playful kid was becoming gradually weaker and didn't have the zest for life. The world was gripped in fear of COVID, and Aabir’s parents were extremely worried about him. After multiple visits to the doctors and undergoing many different tests, what they found left Aabir’s parents in shock. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The lymphoma started in the lymph nodes of Aabir’s chest. He was in a state of great discomfort. His parents admitted him to a hospital in his native country, Bangladesh and things took a turn for the worse. His lungs were filled with blood-red coloured fluid. Doctors removed the fluid but Aabir’s condition only worsened.

Aabir was the only child, and his mother was pregnant with their second child at that time. The family was in great distress and were desperately seeking the best possible treatment for their son.

Let's find out about Aabir's journey and how ClinicSpots helped him!

During this time, they connected with ClinicSpots - a medical platform bringing together healthcare professionals and patients. Our executives took hold of the entire situation and asked them to come to India for Aabir’s treatment. Meanwhile, they connected with Dr. Subhraprakash Sanyal from Fortis Hospital, Mulund and explained in detail Aabir’s medical condition.

Traveling to India was also not easy for the family as the young patient didn’t have a passport. While his passport was getting issued, ClinicSpots executives decided to begin online consultation with the family. They arranged for online calls between Dr. Sanyal and Aabir’s family so that the patient’s condition wouldn’t worsen by the time he reached India. The doctor asked his family to stop using steroids. Dr. Sanyal constantly guided them via calls until Aabir, his father and his grandmother arrived in India on December 17, 2020.

Aabir was very weak by the time he arrived in India. He was immediately admitted to the ICU of Fortis Hospital, Mulund. His grandmother panicked upon seeing his condition and went into a frenzy of rage. Her emotions took over her rationality and she said they don’t want to get the treatment there. Dr. Sanyal and ClinicSpots executives explained to them that they were misguided regarding treatment in Bangladesh. Moreover, Dr. Sanyal promised his family that Aabir would be fine and requested them to give one week’s time to see improvement in his health.

After just 4 days of being admitted, Aabir showed signs of improvement. He was out of the ICU. Dr. Sanyal began chemotherapy on Aabir and he stayed in the hospital for 20 more days. His chemotherapy continued after his release. Dr. Sanyal’s team also performed regular blood tests, bone marrow aspiration and PET scans to see the treatment’s progress.

Aabir and his family continued chemotherapy under Dr. Sanyal for a year. They decided to stay back in India and finish the entire treatment course. This was because of their quality care at Fortis Hospital, Mulund. After one year of chemotherapy and frequent hospital visits, they finally flew back to their home in Bangladesh on November 2, 2021. They went back with hearts full of content and satisfaction.

Aabir and his family are forever grateful to ClinicSpots for connecting them with Dr. Sanyal. He has held their hands in the darkest times and guided them out the way. They are in constant contact with Dr. Sanyal and our executives. Our executives also assisted them when they came for a follow-up check in April, 2022. Today, Aabir is cancer free and continues getting stronger every day. He is an active, lively, friendly and happy kid. He is a true testament to the fighting spirit our patients have.
