Questions & Answers on "Pituitary Diseases" (382)

I got stuck in decreasing calories and now i don't know how much can i start to eat to avoid refeeding syndrome. I am 20-years old male 185cm/43kg

Male | 20

This is when you eat too few calories for a long period, and suddenly eat a lot; it can be dangerous. Some symptoms include heart problems, difficulty breathing, and weakness. Be sure to start slowly with food again and increase your calorie intake gradually over days or even weeks. Getting checked out by medical professionals would help too so that there won’t be any complications.

I did two hba1c tests last month. On one day, my hba1c is 7.9 and the other day it's 6.9. I don't know which one to believe. So I did fbs and ppbs 2 weeks ago. My fbs was 82 and ppbs was 103 I also used medication, and was on a strict diet and exercise from last month. Now I have stopped using medicine. I weighed 107 kgs last month. Now I have lost 6 kgs Am I diabetic? Please answer

Male | 27

It's great that your blood sugar levels are getting better with lifestyle changes. HbA1c test measures the average blood sugar for 2-3 months so, a 6.9 result may be more accurate. Weight loss, exercise, diet changes, and stopping the medicines are all the ones that are working in your case. Make a habit of checking your blood sugar levels regularly and don't let it damage your health.

It’s good that you’re paying attention to the changes in your body. Sudden weight loss can sometimes be linked to conditions like diabetes, thyroid issues, or other underlying health problems. Visit an endocrinologist to check for diabetes and thyroid problems. The doctor may suggest tests like blood sugar levels and thyroid function tests to identify the issue.

Female | 36

Thyroid issues can lead to fatigue, weight changes, and mood fluctuations, often stemming from factors like genetics or autoimmune disorders. Managing these problems is crucial, especially for your well-being and your children's. Treatment options include medication, lifestyle adjustments, and regular monitoring by a healthcare professional. It’s important to consult a doctor for personalized advice and to explore suitable solutions. They can conduct tests to determine the underlying causes and recommend appropriate therapies, ensuring you feel your best. Remember, effective management can significantly improve your quality of life. Your health is a priority!
