4-Year-Old Girl Not Gaining Weight for 8 Months – Should You Be Concerned?

Patient's Query

no weight gain for 4 year girl child from past 8 months

Answered by Dr. Babita Goel

If your 4-year-old hasn't gained weight in the past 8 months, it’s important to evaluate her diet, activity level, and overall health.

✔️ Ensure she’s eating a balanced diet with enough calories and proteins
✔️ Monitor for signs like frequent illness, poor appetite, or digestive issues
✔️ Rule out conditions like nutritional deficiencies, worms, or thyroid problems

I recommend visiting a pediatrician for growth assessment and necessary investigations. Early intervention is key.

Inform your doctor if side effects occur, such as rash, diarrhea, or vomiting.

Please guide what should we do. She is a sesiorion baby at 36 week. When she started siting her neck was tilted towards right shoulder. Her right eye is weak. She puts her finger in her eyes. We dont know whether she has sense in her eyes or not. She is weeping unnecessarily. Please guide us.

Your daughter may be experiencing developmental and sensory challenges that could benefit from evaluation by a pediatric neurologist or pediatric ophthalmologist. These specialists can assess her vision, behavior, and developmental milestones to provide a clear understanding of her needs.

My baby boy is 1.1 year old. He swallowed a small wooden piece. Please kindly suggest me what to do.

Male | 1

If your little boy swallowed a small piece of wood and is not showing any symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, coughing, or choking, it can be assumed that he will pass it through his stool without any problems. Just make sure to check his poop to see that the piece comes out. Nonetheless, if he exhibits any signs of distress or if the piece does not pass within a few days, it is advisable to seek medical advice as early as possible.

Male | 1 month

A brain hemorrhage, which means bleeding inside the brain, is a serious concern for a one-month-old baby. Symptoms may include seizures, excessive crying, feeding difficulties, or unusual body movements. It can be caused by birth trauma, blood clotting problems, or certain medical conditions. Treatment often involves careful monitoring in the hospital, and in some cases, surgery may be needed depending on how severe it is.
