Liquid between the lungs is called pleural effusion. Among the reasons causing pleural effusion, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, cancer and kidney or liver disease are some of them. A significantly levelled D-dimer can mean that there are blood clots, which can also lead to pleural effusion. It is worth to see a pulmonologist to get appropriate evaluation and treatment.
