Questions & Answers on "General Surgery" (106)
Hello, I had pancreas surgery a month ago. I just wanted to know if I can go swimming and ride water slides after a month of surgery? The surgery was only 3 small cuts.
Female | 25
After a pancreas surgery, one should be more mindful that the person should not stay longer in the water and especially not undertake swimming and water slides that are heavy on the internal organ part and can be the cause of some complications. Allow your surgical wounds to heal and do not perform water activities for 2 to 3 months. It's quite natural to feel tensed and it's the right approach to not indulge in these things until you are fully healthy again.

Seton thread in fistula remove in 4 weeks
Male | 30
The Seton thread helps manage fistulas by maintaining drainage and reducing inflammation. After four weeks, you may notice changes such as less discomfort or drainage. However, everyone heals differently, and it’s essential to monitor for any unusual symptoms, like increased pain or swelling. If you have concerns or changes in your situation, please reach out to your gastroenterologist. They can offer personalized advice and determine the best next steps for your care.

I've been having this recurring pain, swelling and eventual discharge in my tailbone area over the past 5 months now. It comes and goes from time to time but whenever the swelling comes, I apply Vaseline to the area and that helps to drain the swelling. I've come to learn that this might be a pilonodial sinus and I'm very concerned about the potential treatment because I've heard that's painful too. At my stage what is the most likely treatment?
Male | 22
It sounds like you may indeed be experiencing a pilonidal sinus, which can cause discomfort, swelling, and discharge in the tailbone area. This condition often arises from hair follicles becoming infected, leading to the formation of a cyst. Treatment options vary; initial management may involve proper hygiene and draining the area, but surgical intervention might be needed if symptoms persist. While surgery may sound daunting, it often resolves the issue effectively. I encourage you to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough examination and personalized treatment plan.

A hernia is when an organ comes out of a hole in the muscle, making a bump and hurting you. After the surgery, it frequently occurs. The recommendation is to consult your physician without delay. Your doctor might also propose surgery if the hernia is not corrected. Do not lift heavy stuff or strain your belly as it may worsen the hernia during this period.

Male | 20
Having a high fever and mild headache can make you feel pretty crummy. These symptoms can be due to an infection, like the flu or a cold. Taking acetaminophen can help bring down the fever and ease your headache. Rest, drink plenty of fluids, and keep an eye on your temperature. If your symptoms don't improve or worsen, it's important to reach out for further advice.

I dont want a baby now, and I have gone to the doctor but he said that if you have gone through caesarean then you have only one option, that is only surgical abortion. And I want mtp. What should I do? please help
Female | 25
If you don’t want pregnancy, then you will first have to get your sonography done, to see for how many weeks you have been pregnant. Second, how to approach this issue also depends on the number of months for which you have been pregnant, and if it's in the range of medical termination then you will be prescribed pills for same. You can approach gynecologists - Gynecologists in Bangalore, let the clinicspots team know if your city is different, and I can be consulted as well. Take care.

I feel numbness near the treated area; is this temporary or should I be concerned?
Female | 65
Numbness in the treated area is normal after surgery. This may be because the medicine used in the process has some temporary effect on the nerves. Apart from this, you may have a tingling or pins and needles sensation. Usually, this numbness heals by itself as your body recovers. If the numbness symptom lasts for a long time or increases, you should notify your doctor.
