Questions & Answers on "General Surgery" (112)
For a year now, I've had a flattened bump on my under arm. It first started out as a blackhead, so I popped it. After that it stayed for several months. I tried to pop it still several times but it was to painful. When I finally popped it, a brown, rock solid nugget popped out of it. Now, it has flattened down but is still purple-ish, giving the impression of being bruised, and still looks as if there is something still inside. What is it?
Female | 13
Looks like a Sebaceous cyst.
These cysts have to be removed surgically as if their wall is not removed, they recur.
Surgery for cyst removal is done under local anesthesia.
It gives a permanent solution.

I had a gallbladder removal surgery and my scrotum is swollen and filled with fluid after that. Is it normal or I need to take some treatment ?
Male | 33
It’s common to feel concerned if your scrotum enlarges after gallbladder surgery. This condition, known as a hydrocele, occurs when fluid accumulates around the testicle. It happens because your body needs time to absorb the fluids used during the surgery. Fortunately, most hydroceles resolve on their own within a few weeks. However, if the condition persists or causes discomfort, consult your doctor. They can recommend treatments such as draining the fluid or surgery if necessary and will guide you to the best option.

Ive had a ruptured appendix surgery last Sunday. Yesterday, I noticed that my incision produces fluids. I am taking celecoxib, cefuroxine and metronidazole. Is my incision infected?
Female | 19
If you notice any fluids leaking from it, this could mean there’s an infection. Other signs of infection may be redness, warmth, swelling, and pain around the area where the incision was made. Usually infections are caused by bacteria. It’s crucial that you get in touch with your surgeons as soon as possible so that they could adjust your drugs or give you additional treatment if necessary.

Ma’am My ultrasound repot not showing anything . Still suffering from left side pain . Kindly suggest me
Male | 54
It’s completely understandable to feel concerned about persistent pain. Several factors could contribute to discomfort on the left side, including muscle strain, digestive issues, or sometimes even referred pain from other areas. While your ultrasound didn’t reveal anything significant, it’s crucial to continue monitoring your symptoms. I recommend keeping a daily log of any additional signs you experience. It might be beneficial to consult a surgeon for further evaluation, especially if the pain persists or worsens.

I fell like lump on my left side belly i am worried about this
Male | 22
Finding a new lump in your abdomen could be a fright but it is also logical. It may not necessarily be a lump in here but mostly the following: a pulled muscle, a lipoma (a fatty lump), or the very worst case a hernia. Most of these lumps are not dangerous but it is concerned if there are changes or other symptoms along with it, such as pain or swelling. It is always better to talk to your health provider so that you are not misdiagnosed, and the problem does not get any knockout worse. Injury in fort in 1 month but not tetanus injection
Female | 47
If the injury happened about a month ago and you did not take a tetanus shot, which is why you are worried now, here is what you need to know: Tetanus is an infection caused by bacteria entering the cuts. Tingling and difficulty breathing might be the symptoms of tetanus. If it has been more than 10 years since you received your last tetanus shot, getting one is the safest option in case of any complications. The process is simple and the results are effective.

As a healthy 30 y/o male with normal blood-coagulation, and not currently on drugs, what should I drink after suffering a finger laceration that leads to blood loss? Approximately a teaspoon, as I quickly applied pressure and administered aid on myself. Normally, I'd drink water, but given the small appendage damaged, I don't want to thin my blood out too much.
Male | 30
If you cut your finger and it bleeds a little bit, the best thing to do is drink small sips of water. Don’t worry too much—this will not greatly thin your blood. It will keep you hydrated and aid in recovery for the body. If you start feeling faint or dizzy, take a seat for some time while elevating your legs so that blood can return flowing towards the brain.

Who are the best laparoscopic surgeons in Dubai?
Female | 36
For the application of laparoscopic surgery, the most important criterion is to choose a doctor who knows how to follow safety rules and take care of the patient. For the most part, a minimally invasive approach is good to go in situations such as gallbladder problems, hernias, or pain in the abdomen. The symptoms are usually related to discomfort, bloating, or changes in digestion. Find well-known doctors with substantial experience in this field so that they can guarantee you sound treatments by their expertise. I propose that a competent health professional guide you.

Female | 26
If you are under 30 years old and your vaccines are up-to-date, you are at a lower risk for tetanus. Tetanus is caused by bacteria found in soil, dirt, or manure. People sometimes experience muscle stiffness, which can make swallowing difficult. Remember to check your immunization records.

What to expect 4 months after hysterectomy?
Male | 45
After a hysterectomy, the recovery period will significantly improve after four months. Most women find less pain, better movement and back to normal life. Hormonal changes may still occur, and emotions about the transformations occurring in reproductive health might not settle. It is important to make regular follow-up appointments with your Doctor for monitoring of overall well being and addressing any concerns that might be developed during the recovery process.

"My father had surgery about 2 to 3 months ago. However, his wound is now leaking fluid. He has been taking antibiotics, but the issue persists. What should we do? Please advise."
Male | 51
It’s understandable to be concerned about your father's wound. A leaking site may indicate an infection or improper healing. While antibiotics are helpful, persistent issues warrant further evaluation. I recommend contacting his surgeon promptly for an assessment. They may need to examine the area, possibly clean it, or adjust his treatment. Additionally, ensure the wound remains clean and dry, and encourage your father to avoid any activities that could strain the area.

Usually, the price of surgery for a splenic cyst will vary from one hospital to another and may be several thousand dollars. Typical symptoms could be pain in the abdomen, unpleasant sensations, or a bloated feeling of fullness. Apart from trauma, other causes of such conditions also exist as the underlying conditions might be responsible. Therapy could be one of the two, either watching the development or surgery when it's time.
