Why are my periods irregular with light bleeding?

Patient's Query

i have late periods my periods arrived on 18th this month and for first five days very light bleeding occured then from 6th day normal bleeding occur till 11th day and then from 12th day light bleeding occur

Answered by Dr. Swapna Chekuri

Late periods and the changes in the bleeding pattern is  actually quite common for periods to vary a bit from month to month. The light bleeding at the beginning and end of your period could be due to hormonal fluctuations. Sometimes stress, changes in weight, or even a change in routine can affect your menstrual cycle. It's good that you're keeping track of these details. I recommend keeping an eye on your cycle for the next couple of months. If this pattern continues or if you have any other concerning symptoms like severe pain or heavy bleeding, it would be a good idea to see a gynecologist for a check-up.

If you have a hunch that have early pregnancy signs, though you receive regular periods then you must see a gynecologist. They are trained to give women reproductive health care and they can be of help to you in determining the right kind of tests and guiding you on how to move on with treatment

hi,my mom, who is 55, experienced menopause a decade ago. However, she has recently noticed some unexpected bleeding. I thought menopause meant no more periods. Why is she bleeding after 10 years of menopause? Should we be concerned, and what should we do about it?

Female | 55

An abnormal vaginal bleed after menopause could indicate the presence of uterine cancer or endometrial hyperplasia and hormonal imbalance. I recommend that your mother consult a gynecologist immediately. A gynecological oncologist is a specialist who can diagnose her in more detail and prescribe treatment if necessary.

Hi My periods just started. There is a Puja in one day. Is there any medication to stop my period for a day? Please advise. Thank you very much.

Female | 34

If you're looking to temporarily delay your period for a specific event, you might consider consulting a gynecologist near you for advice. They can provide guidance on options that might be available, such as hormonal birth control methods like combined oral contraceptives, which can sometimes be used to adjust the timing of your menstrual cycle.
