Can my girlfriend get pregnant after taking emergency contraception?

Patient's Query

Hello , My girlfriend got periods 15 days back and yesterday we had an unprotected sex where I released inside her ( Ovulation phase ). After knowing this she had an ipill just after that ( 1 hour ) after sex . Is there any chance still that she can get pregnant?

Answered by Dr. Himali Patel

The emergency pill works by preventing or delaying ovulation, making it less likely for pregnancy to occur. However, it's not 100% effective, especially if ovulation has already happened. You see, sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for a few days, so if ovulation was imminent, there could still be a risk of pregnancy. I recommend keeping an eye out for any unusual symptoms and consider a pregnancy test if her period is late. It's also a good idea to discuss other contraceptive options with a gynecologist for future protection.

Dear Doctor, I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to discuss some concerns that have been affecting my mental and sexual health, specifically related to my use of pornography and its broader impact on my life. I am a male, 26/27 years old. No health issues. I've noticed that my consumption of pornography and engagement in cybersex have escalated to a point where they negatively affect my life and relationships. My need for increasingly explicit material to achieve sexual arousal has grown over the years (a phenomenon called "Desensitization" i believe), and it's become apparent that this pattern is not sustainable. I've observed that this habit has not only affected my ability to enjoy real-life sexual encounters but has also contributed to the deterioration of my previous relationship. At times, I had found myself needing to think of pornography to maintain an erection during sexual intercourse. In an attempt to address this, I've tried to quit watching porn, only to experience a significant drop in my libido and desire for sexual activity. This "flat line" phase, as it's often referred to in various forums, has left me feeling worried and uncertain about the path forward. Of course, i started watching again, just to make sure that everything is normal. The first couple of times, the erections were weaker than usual. I understand that the body of scientific research in this area is still evolving, and there seems to be a lack of definitive guidance on dealing with these challenges. Given these complexities, I'm seeking your professional advice on several fronts: 1- Is the "flat line" phase a recognized scientific phenomenon, and what does current research say about it? 2- Considering my concerns about the long-term effects of abstaining from pornography and reduced masturbation, what guidance can you provide? I'm particularly worried about maintaining sexual function, including erectile strength and ejaculation control. 3-Could you suggest any scientific, medical research articles or resources that could offer more insight into these issues? Your expertise and any evidence-based recommendations would be immensely valuable to me as I consider my next steps. Many thanks for your time and consideration. Kind regards,

Male | 26

It is crucial to realize that gaining an excessive amount of pornography and cyberspace ultimately results in being desensitized, and it has a negative impact on sexual encounters with real living partners and relationships.

The "flat line" effect, that you brought up, is also a commonly displayed problem where former porn addicts may experience a drop in their sex drive and arousal. But for now, the findings are not substantial, more studies are required to distinguish porn effect on sexual function from its own.

With regard to facilitation, many people have found it immensely helpful to consult a professional mental health care provider, such as a therapist or a counselor, and avail their expert help in dealing with this problem and addressing any underlying psychological factors. A sex therapist may possess skills in counseling individuals with sexual dysfunction or enhancing sexual functions.

Your well-being is of top concern and seeking the help of a mental and sexual health specialist can provide you with the needed information when making a decision about your next step. In this connection, I suggest you talk to a psychologist or sex therapist, whose main professional concern is the issues you are experiencing, for more help and support.

Best regards,
Dr. Madhu Sudan

Hello. Please answer me and give clarity. I'm in a helpless situation. On oct 24th there was an intercourse which includes no vaginal penetration ,no ejaculation,no direct contact of penis and vagina but it includes rubbing of penis around anal region. I can say the penis was dry . After that on Nov 8th or 9th she got her periods with normal flow(there were no missed periods but don't know whether they are normal menstrual periods or false periods but they lasted for 3 days like usual). And again on Dec 6th she got her periods. On Dec 27th she did a urine pregnancy test out of my curiosity and it showed clear negative. Again on Jan 3rd she had periods which seemed to be normal flow and lasted for 3 days . Is there still any chance of pregnancy in this case. I'm soo worried by seeing the a of internet articles where a women did not noticed her pregnancy upto 6 months and some said they had bleeding during their pregnency and I'm really worried about the CRYPTIC pregnancy. Hello, I'm reaching out on behalf of my brother, who is a 32 year old male. Recently, he was diagnosed with HIV, and we are trying to understand the specifics of the condition. I'm particularly concerned about the possibility of HIV transmission from female to male. Can you provide information on the risks and preventive measures in such cases? We want to ensure he receives the best care and takes necessary precautions.

Male | 32

For a person already diagnosed with HIV, it’s crucial to adhere to prescribed antiretroviral therapy (ART) to manage the condition. Regular medical check-ups are also important. Safe practices, including using barrier methods during sexual contact, can prevent further transmission. Please consult an infectious disease specialist for personalized advice.

Can i sex with my partner who was having chicken pox 25 days earlier

Male | 29

Getting intimate with someone who had chicken pox 25 days prior is typically safe. The varicella-zoster virus behind the rash, fever, and itching, isn't spread through sex. Once symptoms disappear, the infected person isn't contagious anymore. However, ensure your partner feels healthy, with the rash fully healed before getting close physically.

Hi sir I am 32 years old I have sugar I have sex problems with in secs it’s came out suggest me best medicine sir

Male | 32

You may be suffering from premature ejaculation. On the other hand, this could be realized with different factors such as, for example, stress, anxiety, and hormonal imbalance in your body. One of the methods I would suggest is to look for behavioral interventions like the start-stop method or the squeeze technique during sex. It is also possible to discuss with a doctor about the medications or therapy options which may be of help with your situation.
