What is about ICL surgery,my son aged 22 years have 7-8 numbers in both eyes

  • ICL stands for implantable collamer lens (ICL), this artificial lens is permanently fitted inside the eye, and can work effectively for people with: myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism.
  • Somethings to know about this implant surgery:
    • It can correct nearsightedness.
    • It can be reversed (in other words these lens can be removed if your son doesn't gets used to them).
  • Be aware of risks associated with this surgery, if these implants are not fixed properly then the surgery can lead up to:
    • Eye disease (glaucoma, cataracts)
    • Vision loss or blurred vision
    • Detachment of retina
  • While the common side effects are: pain & discomfort
  • Your son may be prone to risks if he's:
    • on a course of medicines related to vision problems
    • affected by some condition that inhibits healing of wounds
    • fails to meet minimum requirements of endothelial cell count (doctor will inform)
  • Note: 7 and 8 is too far from zero and may mean that an individual is already at risk of retinal issues, so please put this across to the surgeon and know how prepared they are to handle any resulting consequences.
Also discuss in advance, regarding what kind of risks will they compensate and in what manner.

Discuss with doctor at length, your son's health conditions & family history, pre-operative measures, post-operation care, his own experience and success rate with past patients.

From what I understand, one of the pupils in your child's eye is smaller, this condition is known as Anisocoria, and it's causing him to have vision issues, so for this we will recommend that you visit a specialist.
While the pupils will remain just the way they are, but the vision-related issues can be fixed, refer our page - Pediatric Ophthalmologists in Mumbai.

Let us know your city for better recommendations, and drop us a message anytime you have any doubt!

My grandfather age 65 have eye problems And doctor tell cause glaucoma. We want to know the treatment and approximate expense for glaucoma treatment

  • Glaucoma:
    • Is a group of eye-related ailments that damage the optic nerve, which is crucial for optimal vision. This damage often results from abnormally high pressure in the eye, and can potentially lead up to blindness as well.
    • The damage caused by this ailment cannot be reversed, but regular checkups & treatments can either slow down the progress of damage, or prevent further loss from taking place.

  • The aim is to reduce his eye pressure which is causing vision loss and optic nerve damage, so your grandfather has the following options:
    • Prescription eyedrops, oral medicines, laser treatment, and surgery.

  • To know more about surgery, laser, and other minimally invasive treatments, read ahead:
    • Laser therapy/trabeculoplasty: The doctor uses a small laser beam to open clogged channels causing intraocular pressure.
    • Filtering surgery/trabeculectomy: The surgeon makes an incision in the white of the eye (sclera) and removes part of the tissue which causes intraocular pressure.
    • Drainage tubes: The surgeon inserts a small tube shunt in patient's eye and drains out excess fluid to decrease eye pressure.
    • Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS): a set of minimally invasive techniques to lower the eye pressure.
There are several MIGS techniques, and the doctor will discuss.

  • We recommend adopting these lifestyle modification tips from our side, for life long, as this disease may not necessarily get cured:
    • Dietary changes promote eye health: Eat food with the appropriate quantity of zinc, copper, selenium, and antioxidant vitamins C, E, and A.
      For better guidance - Dietitian/Nutritionists.
    • Avoid: Caffeine & beverages.
    • Sleep: While sleeping your head should be elevated. Using a wedge pillow helps, ensure that head is slightly raised about 20 degrees.

  • For more details, visit - Ophthalmologists.
    Question them along these lines:
    • Common side effects and risks
    • Correction course for unwanted outcomes & compensation
    • Pre-operative measure & post-operation care
    • Candidate eligibility criteria for each treatment

I am 22 year old. I want to correct my vision using Lasik surgery. How should I proceed if my number is stable.

What we understand by "stable number" is, that your vision didn't deteriorate or improve and has been the way it was, whether good or bad.

If it's stable but the vision is bad, then LASIK surgery should be done.

In case we didn't understand your query properly, then you may refer to this page to find doctors who will educate better - Ophthalmologists in India.

But we will impart as many details as we can, from our end:

  1. The following are common side effects that your eyes will face:
    • Itchy, gritty, and watery.
    • Burning and aching sensation.
    • Blurry vision.
  2. These are the risks that can possibly occur, but in rare cases:
    • Deteriorated vision.
    • Correction surgeries due to removal of too little or too many tissues during surgery.
    • Vision loss and/or dry eyes.
    • Vision going back to how it was pre-surgery.
  3. You are eligible for this treatment if you:
    • Don't have dry eyes/eye infection/retinal issues/large pupils/thin cornea/etc.
    • Have bad vision (as long as these issues aren't the culprit: age-related changes/medications/hormonal changes).
    • Have extreme nearsightedness.
    • Don't have an autoimmune disorder or weakened immune system.
  4. Pre-treatment precautions to keep in mind:
    • Avoid eye makeup and eye lenses few weeks before surgery, use glasses instead (doctor will inform).
    • Inform surgeon of your medical history/family history/supplements & medications.
  5. Post-treatment care:
    • Use medications and eye drops as advised by the surgeon.
    • Avoid certain activities which could strain your eyes (doctor will inform).
  6. Our prediction of overall cost for this treatment (actual cost may exceed the given range owing to certain factors):
    • Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 1,00,000.
    • To understand the price breakdown, advantages, disadvantages, and more about this process in detail, we implore you to read our blog - Lasik Eye Surgery.

Let us know if you have any other doubt, and do tell us if you have city-based requirements to undergo this surgery, take care!

  • Also discuss with doctors their experience with past patients & success rate, detailed procedure of this surgery, what risks can follow post-surgery, and liability/compensation/correction treatment for unwanted outcomes following the surgery.
