Your keratoconus surgery options include the following typess of corneal transplant (that is a part of eye), depending on the location of bulging cone and severity of condition:
- Penetrating keratoplasty: For corneal scarring or extreme thinning. Penetrating keratoplasty is a transplant of entire cornea. In this procedure, doctors remove a portion of your central cornea and replace it with the donor's tissue.
- Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK): Preserves the inner lining of the cornea (endothelium), but rest of cornea tissues are replaced. This helps avoid the rejection of this critical inside lining that can occur with a full-thickness transplant.
But this is based on our limited understanding, you can approach other doctors for second opinions - Ophthalmologists in India.
