Why do I experience left side bloating post-meal?

Patient's Query

I have bloating in left side after meal

Answered by Dr. Samrat Jankar

Bloating could be due to various reasons like gas buildup or indigestion. Sometimes, certain foods like beans, lentils, or dairy can cause this. In fact, eating too quickly or not chewing food thoroughly can also lead to bloating. To help with this, try eating smaller meals, avoiding gas-producing foods, and chewing your food slowly. It might also be helpful to keep a food diary to see if any specific foods trigger your symptoms. If the bloating persists or becomes severe, it's best to consult with a gastroenterologist for further evaluation and advice.

I have been belching excessively for a year or two now. Have bad stomach aches and hot sweats as if I'm going through the change again. I'm 68.

Female | 68

These symptoms could be due to various reasons like acid reflux, gastritis, or even a stomach infection. Sometimes, hormonal changes can also cause hot sweats. I would recommend you see your gastroenterologist for a proper evaluation. They may suggest simple tests like a blood test or an abdominal ultrasound to get a better idea of what's going on. In the meantime, try eating smaller meals, avoiding spicy or fatty foods, and staying hydrated. These steps might help ease your symptoms a bit.

's burning me from the inside out. What can I take? I tried baking soda but I use 2tbs instead of half a teaspoon and have been having extreme burning and pain in my body and rectum for a year it's getting worse. I eat a strict diet and I work etc so in general after I eat it or when I wake up it's on fire supplements I take charcoal tablets because I have constipation so I feel like because my bowls are t emptying the toxins are causing inflammation to flare up. I take a leaky gut powder, creatine, anxiety medication the generic version of Lexapro 10 mg a mood stabilizer 150 mg, and propanol as needed. Recently my doctor put me on omeprazole. I take mushrooms turmeric

Female | 29

It seems you may have severe acid reflux if your doctor gave you a prescription for omeprazole. Your symptoms can get worse if you take too much baking soda. The burning feeling means there could be too much acid in your stomach and esophagus. Always take all drugs and supplements according to the instructions on the label. Also, remember to write down what you eat and how it makes you feel then raise any questions with your doctor.

Female | 64

You would want to consult a general physician or a primary care doctor for the symptoms you mentioned. They'll conduct an initial assessment, ask about your medical history, perform a physical examination, and may order some tests if necessary to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.

Based on their evaluation, the primary care doctor may refer you to a gastroenterologist if they suspect a specific gastrointestinal condition or if further specialized care is required.

Hi I am a 21 year old female who has been travelling in Europe for 1 months. I have been having diarrhoea for the past week on and off and have been taking anti diarrhoea tablets. These block me up and cause stomach cramps. What would you recommend? Thank you

Female | 21

From what you've been saying, the diagnosis could be you having traveler's diarrhea, a typical thing when exposed to new places. Anti-diarrhea pills can make things worse by stopping your body from getting rid of the bad stuff that causes stomach cramps. It is best to replenish your fluids by drinking clean water and consuming sports drinks or oral rehydration solutions that contain electrolytes. Stick to the basics, bland foods like rice, bananas, and toast for a while until things settle down. If your symptoms persist, consult your physician for medical advice.
