Could my cognitive decline be due to inadequate blood supply?

Patient's Query

‎I am a 22-year-old medical student with a history of OCD. Currently, I suspect an inadequate blood supply to my brain. I experience irritable sensations within my skull that eases when I put candy or chew sugary chocolate in my mouth. Deep breaths also momentarily eased the situation all the time I took them. These sensations, which generally ensue when I put the brain to work, are at times accompanied by tinnitus. Verbal communication is enough brain work to trigger these. Also, these symptoms never disappear after casual meals unless I eat till my stomach stretches. I have had multiple cases of gastroesophageal reflux. These sensations have also manifested post-sleep even though I had eaten till stomach stretch just before sleeping in some of the cases. As pertaining academics and cognitive ability, my cognitive ability decreases with the onset of these sensations. I probably experienced pain in some instances inside my head when trying hard to reason, bring to memory or execute motor functions in a way I could do in the past. My academics has gone downhill - I used to be a top student but I just finished my resit exams Could I get a diagnosis? I currently do not use any medication ‎

Answered by Dr. Gurneet Sawhney

The sensation you're feeling could be related to changes in blood flow or even glucose levels in your brain. It's important to consider conditions like migraines, tension headaches, or even issues with blood sugar regulation. To get a clearer picture, I recommend seeking a thorough evaluation by a neurologist. In the meantime, try to maintain a balanced diet, stay hydrated, and manage stress levels. Don't hesitate to schedule an appointment for a proper assessment and appropriate management.

Hi !my son was taking a medicine epival 250mg for last 6 years he is seizure free no attack no fit is observed during that duration but on Eid day he got a seizure after fasting in Ramadan when he wake up. His friends brought him to doctors he said due to weakness and lack of sleep this happened. In those days he was showing carelessness in taking medicine I AM asking you that after a long time he got a seizure how much time he has to take medicine to become seizures free in future He is 22 years of age .please answer me hopefully he is my only son now doctor has recommended him epival 500 mg twice a day

Male | Farhan shahid

After a long period without seizures, it is still possible for them to occur, especially if he misses his medication or becomes overly tired. Fasting and lack of sleep during the Eid period may have contributed. His physician recommends he take Epival 500mg twice daily. The new dosage is expected to reduce the frequency of seizures if taken regularly.

A daytime sleep schedule not only helps a patient with fibromyalgia to get better but is also of paramount importance to them to avoid sleeping after midnight. Sleep can aggravate or diminish pain, tiredness, and even exacerbations. Adjusting the sleep schedule 3-4 hours before midnight might be a good way to augment sleep quality. Convince your mother to give sleep a priority so that she can not only reduce what she is experiencing but also have better overall health.

Feeling Dizzy vomiting headache

Female | 21

It may be caused by the virus for instance, and your body is struggling with it, or it may be a simple dehydration issue. Drink water frequently, rest, and eat well-cooked bland foods (crackers being one of the great options indeed). If your symptoms do not improve, consult a doctor.

I wanna try to get scanned for a brain tumour, this thought has gone as far back as grade 8 and I know this is out of proportion insane but I mean at first it started with the moments of feeling like I was getting dumber instead of smarter, not like beating myself up but just the actual feeling of losing information Then it was the foggy memories, messed up timeline, all of which I just kinda blamed on Parasomnia Then it was the derealization, the feeling of my grip on the world was leaving me and I’ve just tried so hard to fight it The change in my thoughts I mean I’ve become borderline obsessive, bi polar at my worst and even just thinking of life differently I mean in grade 9 I even just lost so much sense of fear, I started being way more reckless than before Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it was what helped Mono attack my body harder I mean looking at symptoms yeah I only have the less severe ones but even loss of hearing and vision change has kinda set in I’ve heard stories of people who didn’t bother to check man and it just makes me afraid that I’m a ticking time bomb until the time someone sees me faint and not wake up Today in class I got, so, so lightheaded, and I just feel this impending doom sitting on my chest man

I would recommend you to book an appointment with a neurologist to detail your symptoms and worries regarding the potential brain tumor. He can perform extensive evaluation and diagnostic tests to determine the source of your symptoms. It is not advisable to wait until the time runs out and an early diagnosis will help you have a different outcome.

What is a sleep stroke?

Female | 30

There is no medical condition specifically referred to as a "sleep stroke." However, strokes can occur at any time, including during sleep. A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is disrupted, either due to a blocked blood vessel (ischemic stroke) or bleeding in the brain (hemorrhagic stroke). The risk factors for stroke include hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and other cardiovascular conditions. If someone experiences symptoms like sudden numbness, confusion, trouble speaking, or severe headache, even during sleep, immediate medical attention is crucial.

Why does my mind feel clear and I got tap water up my nose is my mind feeling clear a symptom of the brain eating amoeba?

Male | 15

Getting tap water in your nose won't give you brain-eating amoeba. When water enters through nostrils, it brings sensation of mental clarity due to temperature difference. However, that amoeba is very uncommon, causing severe signs like intense headaches, fever, and disorientation. Avoid letting water enter the nose, especially in warm freshwater regions. But feeling refreshed after accidental nasal water entry doesn't indicate the presence of that frightening amoeba.

Male | 28

The ailments you mentioned, such as pounding pain, sleepiness, and fatigue are normal for a concussion. Drink no alcohol and take it easy, but don't sleep now. See if you can manage to stay awake for a few hours and check your symptoms. Go to the doctor in case the symptoms become more serious.

Female | 53

It's great to hear that you got through Wernicke-Korsakoff with minimal issues. Don't worry; you're not limited to just 8 years. Wernicke-Korsakoff affects memory and brain function, causing symptoms like confusion, vision problems, and walking difficulties, usually due to a Vitamin B1 deficiency. Treatment includes B1 supplements and a nutritious diet. With proper care, you can live a long, healthy life.
