Hi, I sustained a second-degree dry burn injury in my arm. Now the scar has hypertrophied. It is about 4cm x 1.5cm. I want to know the procedures to remove the hypertrophied scar, the cost involved and the days I need to be off work.

Answered by Pankaj Kamble

Hello, There are various treatments which can be done to remove Hypertrophic scar:

  1. Corticosteroid treatments: Corticosteroid injections are considered a first-line treatment for hypertrophic scars. Injecting a steroid into the scar every six weeks may help flatten and soften the scar.
  2. Laser therapy: Laser therapy is more effective in newly formed scars than in older scars. The lasers work by burning and flattening elevated scars. They also target the red and pink pigments in the scars to lighten them.
  3. Bleomycin: : Bleomycin is a metabolite of a strain of soil bacteria. It has shown promising results when injected directly into a hypertrophic scar. It may help improve the scars appearance and relieve itching and pain.
  4. Cryotherapy: In cryotherapy, a doctor or dermatologist freezes the scar tissue with liquid nitrogen to help flatten it. Cryotherapy has been shown to be successful, safe, nontoxic, and well-tolerated in a number of small studies.
  5. Surgery: :After waiting at least a year, a hypertrophic scar can be excised, or cut out, and closed again with stitches. This treatment tries to re-heal the injury while eliminating the issues that may have caused the scar in the first place, such as infection, inflammation, or tension.

Your doctor will tell you which treatment to be done so, we suggest you visit your nearest Plastic Surgeon and regarding the cost, it varies from doctor to doctor, only after complete physical examination the cost details will be provided. I hope this answers your query. Find doctors here - Dermatologists in India.

A couple days ago i noticed a large lump underneath one of my armpits. a few weeks prior my armpit had been feeling very sore and painful but i just recently looked and saw a large lump and there was some sort of discharge leaking from it.. a few days later it’s gotten somewhat smaller but now there is a nasty raw scab growing around it and it hurts and itches. also the center of the lump is red and sticking outward and looks like it’s bleeding.

This could be a clue to some infection. See a dermatologist immediately for an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. Immediate medical treatment is vital in such situations.

Shall i get treatment for sensitive skin?

Female | 33

Living with sensitive skin can be frustrating. Your skin may redden, itch, and burn, often triggered by genetics and certain products. Use gentle, fragrance-free products, avoid hot showers as they can be harsh, and shield your delicate skin from the sun's rays. With proper care, your sensitive skin can feel comfortable again.

Hello, I’m 24 years old and would like to know if I have to be concerned using an aluminum based antiperspirant

Female | 24

It's natural to be anxious over the question of whether aluminum compounds used in antiperspirants are safe for your health. Some are jittery about the information they read which might suggest there is a health issue. However, the majority of studies confirm that there is no such evidence of the relationship between antiperspirants with aluminum and health risks. If you notice any itching, rash, or irritation, try switching to an aluminum-free option.

Dealing with acne, dark spots, and dullness can be frustrating. Acne causes pimples. Pigmentation leads to unwanted dark patches. Dullness makes your complexion appear tired, lacking radiance. To tackle these woes, consider skincare with retinol, niacinamide, and vitamin C. Shielding your skin from sun damage by applying sunscreen regularly is crucial. Hello, I have a wart/verucca for a few years now, a couple of days ago it was painful and i noticed that it was all yellow around, like it was inflamed, so i tried to drain it and i cut the inflamed part to the point where all 7 layers of my skin was gone and it left a hole, the dimensions of the area is about 1.5cm and it doesnt hurt anymore, should i be concerned or will it heal on it own?

Female | 18

Cutting or draining a wart at home can lead to infection and other complications. Since you've removed multiple layers of skin and created a hole, there is a risk of infection, scarring, or delayed healing. A professional can assess the wound, provide appropriate treatment to prevent infection, and determine whether any further steps are needed for healing

Male | 16

The Acnestar gel 22g is not suitable for treating dark spots on the face and only used in the treatment of acne. The dark spots on the face can be caused by different factors such as sun exposure, hormonal changes or aging of skin. A dermatologist should be consulted for the right diagnosis and treatment.
