Hi, my name is Sateesh. I am 19 years old studying for Graduation. I work out most of the time. I had pain in the back one morning near the left side of the neck. Numbness all over the body, weakness in hands and legs, coldness under the foot,etc. We went to the hospital to consult a Neurosurgeon. He took an MRI test and said this condition is cervical transverse myelitis. Doctors have given steroids and antibiotics for a week. Now my legs are fine but hands are not working properly, tightness of abdominal, shaking of hands, muscle weakness, my hand fingers are not working properly. Hello, Transverse myelitis is an inflammation on both sides of one section of the spinal cord (in your case it is cervical). This neurological disorder damages the insulating material of the nerve fibres which results in interruption of the nerve conduction system. Usually, recovery begins from two to twelve weeks of the first onset of symptoms and may continue up to two years. In case, if there is no improvement in symptoms within several months then the recovery is difficult. About one-third of these patients show partial or full recovery.
