Can I treat a broken nail at home?

Patient's Query

Treatment for broken nail

Answered by Dr. Anju Methil

Broken nail is quite common and can happen due to trauma, like hitting it against something or even from repetitive stress. In fact, it can be a bit painful and bothersome. The most broken nails can heal on their own with some simple care. You can try trimming the nail to prevent further damage, keeping it clean to avoid infection, and applying a gentle moisturizer to the area. If you experience any redness, swelling, or pus, it's best to see a dermatologist for further evaluation and treatment.

I am terrified of taking medication because I fear Steven Johnson syndrome

Female | 27

You are afraid of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome from drugs. It is a rare but serious skin reaction. Symptoms can be flu-like symptoms, a rash, and blisters on the skin. Medicines or infections can cause it. Before starting any new medicine, speak with your doctor if this is something that concerns you. They will be able to help you choose what might work best for you and watch out for signs of trouble.

Itching only on left side particular side only

Female | 34

When the itching is only on one side of your body, it might mean that something is irritant your skin. Occasionally, allergies or dermatitis that is caused by eczema can be the reasons for that. Moreover, nerve disorders or infections may be the causes. Look if you have any rashes or skin discoloration. Try to refrain from scratching as it may cause an infection. The application of a light moisturizer or a calm cream can give some relief.

Age-41yrs. From last 3 years suffering from a black patch all around my lips, specially below the lips on both sides. I had visited a doctor there who detected the problem to be Perical pig / Melasma Pg as written in the prescription. Treated me with the following medicines For the 1st month- Cetaphil gentle cleanser, Flutivate E cream alternate night and Kojic cream once in a day. Next visit I was advised to use Kojiglo cream once daily, Eukroma+Flutivate E cream on the patches twice a week. But I did not find any difference. I had informed the doctor that I cannot afford a very costly treatment, but on her assurance during my third visit I was applied Glycocil pack but yet felt no difference. Then was asked to use Dermadew Caloe lotion every day and Azideenz 10% gel once a day, this gel made my skin rough, when complained she advised me to use only Dermadew lotion day and night daily. My face is 2 to 3 shades darker than my body color. What to do now to get rid of this patch

Female | 41

Without a proper evaluation and diagnosis, I can't say. But normally, suggested treatments for perical pigmentation include topical medications and laser treatments and I do not recommend flutivate cream for pigmentation. However, based on your individual condition, the doctor will recommend the best treatment for you.

I am a 28 year female, with oily skin, having complaints regarding acne, acne scars, tanning, uneven skin tone and dullness. Can I get treatment options for my concerns as well as the cost so as to proceed further. Thank you!

Female | 28

There are many treatment options available to help address your concerns. You can choose from a basic skincare routine to more involved treatments such as laser treatments, chemical peels, light therapy, micro-needling, and laser treatments for acne scarring. These will work by stimulating new collagen in your skin, which can help reduce the appearance of scars. You can look into chemical peels, laser treatments, and light therapies for hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. These treatments can help to break down pigmented cells and stimulate new cell growth, which in turn can help reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. For dullness, you can look into facial treatments such as microdermabrasion, which can help to exfoliate your skin and reduce dullness. Cost of these treatments can vary widely, depending on the type of treatment you choose. It is best to consult with a dermatologist to get better treatment options.
