Can I Donate My Hair?

Patient's Query

I want to donate my hair

Answered by Priyanka Dutta Deb

Before the donation make sure your hair is more than 10 inches long and also devoid of any chemical treatment. If you suffer from any condition related to the scalp, it is advised that you see a dermatologist first, beforehand. You may go to a hair donation organization or drop a message to a trichologist to get more details.

It is advisable to consult a dermatologist. These signs may signal a skin disorder like eczema or psoriasis.

Sir, I am 23 year old. I don't have beard. I barely have any hair under my chin. Please help me with my beard growth.

Male | 23

The dermatologist will first need your family history and trichoscopy examination for the evidence of vellus hairs. Then they might begin their treatment with minoxidil, micro-needling and Growth factor injections. If no improvement is seen however, then they will suggest hair transplant.

Any mild product's recommendation that gives good results?

Female | 14

If you have mild skin breakouts, like small pimples or redness, you can try using a product with benzoyl peroxide. These breakouts often occur when dirt and oil clog your pores, leading to bacteria that cause pimples. Benzoyl peroxide helps kill this bacteria and heal the pimples. Make sure to wash your face thoroughly before applying the product as directed on the label. If you experience dryness, it might be due to benzoyl peroxide, so it's a good idea to apply a moisturizer after the treatment.

Hello. Roughly one month ago I purchased a home wart removal kit to remove what appeared to be a benign wart on the back of my knee. The nozzle on this device broke during use, spraying an area roughly two inches in diameter on my skin with dimethyl ether. This caused a small superficial frostbite/burn, but didn't take care of the wart so I used another kit afterwards which used a swab rather than a nozzle. After using both of these, the area blistered. This blister quickly popped and fell off on its own after just a day, leaving an area of incredibly raw and bloody skin. I applied neosporin to this area regularly and kept it clean allowing it to heal. It's been a month now and while this area isn't entirely healed, it has protective skin on it now. My issue here is the area has a blotchy dark coloration now, looking almost like bruising. This seems odd to me given that it's been a month now, should I be worried about this coloration? There is no pain at the site, though the skin there is quite thin and rough.

Male | 32

Its natural to experience discoloration in skin especially after a blister or wound has occurred. color changes during the healing process. It could be due to hyperpigmentation which is the increased production of melanin in that area. This can result in a bruise-like appearance.

A few days ago I noticed a bump on my head and I thought I just hit my head. After a couple days it started to get a bit bigger and I noticed that it was a pimple on my scalp. I popped the pimple and removed all the pus and it started to bleed for a little bit but it shortly went away. I went to take a look at it today and I noticed a small circular bald spot about 1 cm in diameter where the pimple used to be. When touching the area with my hand I noticed that the hair in that area is really sensitive and can fall out if I rummage my hand through that area. Is this a concern or is this something normal?

Male | 21

A small circular bald spot on the scalp after popping a pimple is not uncommon, but if the area is sensitive and hair is falling out, please see a dermatologist to rule out infection or other underlying conditions.
