  • You can shower but don't take a bath for at least the first 2 weeks until your surgeon permits you to.
  • Don't insert anything inside your vagina for 4-6 weeks post hysterectomy, as per instructions given by your healthcare provider.
  • Avoid driving for 3-8 weeks.
  • Don't lift anything heavy for 6-8 weeks after the operation.
  • Avoid sexual activities and strenuous physical activities for 6-8 weeks post-operation.
  • Avoid swimming until your healthcare provider gives you the green signal.
  • To protect your gut system, avoid bowel movement issues, and promote faster healing, you need to avoid the following foods:
    • Saturated fats (butter, cheese, palm oil);
    • Alcohol;
    • High carb food items (white bread, white rice, pasta);
    • Processed foods (cakes, biscuits, pretzels).
  • We have also written an elaborate answer detailing what household chores you will or won't be able to perform post hysterectomy.
  • Within 2 months of this surgery, you will be able to resume a lot of activities.

Hope this answers your query!

After a hysterectomy, your belly could sag, so you might think about getting a tummy tuck.
