  • Metastasis of cancer: A crucial factor in deciding the immunotherapy cost in Kolkata is how far cancer has spread and what parts are affected by cancer. If cancer has not affected more body organs, then the cost of immunotherapy will be relatively lower.

  • Type of cancer: Immunotherapy is not the treatment option for all types of cancer. The cost of immunotherapy is different for different types of cancer. Depending on the type of cancer a patient has, immunotherapy type and drugs will be decided, thus affecting the cost of immunotherapy in Kolkata.

  • Health of the patient: Basically, immunotherapy is a treatment where your immune cells are treated so that they are made capable of fighting cancer. So, your actual health also plays a major role in deciding the cost of immunotherapy.

  • Duration of the treatment: The duration of the treatment is another important factor in deciding the cost of immunotherapy in Kolkata. It is dependent on the number of sessions you require. The duration is decided based on the following factors, mainly type, and grade of cancer.

  • Treatment plan: At times, you are not given immunotherapy alone. You may have undergone chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery initially, followed by immunotherapy, thereby increasing the total cost of the treatment.

  • Types of the drugs used: In immunotherapy, there are different types of drugs whose costs are also different. The doctor will decide the drugs which will be used for the treatment, and accordingly, it will affect the cost of immunotherapy.

Other Details

You might be wondering why immunotherapy for cancer in Kolkata is less as compared with other developed nations. Let's take a look why.

Let us tell you why there is such a wide difference in the cost between the countries:

  • Indian currency: The major reason for this huge difference in immunotherapy cost in Kolkata is the currency. The Indian currency is quite low as compared to the dollar, euro, etc. Thus, the cost of the treatment is less as compared to other countries.

  • Living cost: The living cost in Kolkata is almost 65% lower than the other developed countries. Therefore, you can get all the facilities at a very low cost.

  • Competition: Well, Kolkata is a place where you have abundant choices of hospitals. All these hospitals offer a variety of medical treatments. So, therefore you can choose at your convenience from a wide range of cancer hospitals in Kolkata than other cancer hospitals in the world.

Success Rate of Immunotherapy in Kolkata

The success rate of immunotherapy in Kolkata has seen a tremendous increase. The five-year survival rate of immunotherapy has increased from 5.5% in 2012 to 28 % in 2019. While other cancer treatments like chemotherapy, radiation therapy, etc., cannot give this high survival rate at stage IV cancer, immunotherapy becomes one of the leading choices to get better results. Immunotherapy has successfully treated 15 types of cancers, including skin, lung, kidney, and bladder cancers, and the number is expanding.

In an article by The Hindu, Dr. Shripad Banavali, head of academics and professor of pediatric and medical oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital, said that immunotherapy is the most promising area in cancer right now.

Questions & Answers on "Cancer" (374)

I found a small lump under my right breast about 2 weeks ago. It’s not painful, but it feels firm and hasn’t gone away. I’m really scared it could be cancer. What should I do?

Female | 32

A new lump in the breast should always be evaluated by an oncologist. Most lumps are benign (like fibroadenomas or cysts), but it’s important to rule out malignancy. I’d advise getting an ultrasound of both breasts and a clinical examination. Depending on findings, a core biopsy may be needed.

Ive always had discharge for as long as I can remember and at my 8 week postpartum checkup the doctor checked me but said it wasn’t alarming because it’s not bothering me. I am currently 4 months postpartum and noticed I was getting discharge that had a slight odour and the discharge left rashes between my thighs and it got to the point I couldn’t wear underwear because the discharge would get more and I keep getting rashes. I noticed it getting a little bit better when I stopped wearing underwear the smell was still slightly fishy but not too terrible like before but recently after sexual intercourse I bled a little. Now google says it’s either the C word or some infection. I’m aware I should go doctor right away but I’m just not able to do so , my last two screenings for cervical cancer with my Pap smear came negative it was in 2018 and 2021. What’s the reason I bled?

Female | 27

Postpartum, it is normal to discharge but rashes and odor can prove an infection. Sex-related bleeding is not normal and may indicate a problem. This is why it’s important to go and see a doctor so that they can rule out any serious conditions. Cervical cancer screenings are also significant, but they do not detect all problems. If you are experiencing symptoms, do not waste time before seeing a doctor.

If your PSA level has risen after previous treatments for prostate cancer,Plz consult with the best oncology hospital in India or your urologist. An increase in PSA levels may indicate a recurrence or progression of the cancer. The next steps will depend on your health, the extent of the cancer, and the treatments you've already received..

Female | 39

CA 125 can be high in the blood which sometimes shows the presence of ovarian cancer in the body. Special cases when cysts are related to this cancer. The patient might feel bloated, have pain in the pelvis area, and experience problems with eating. It is necessary to get rid of the ovaries and uterus so that the cancer does not get worse. Relaxing more won't make any difference as the surgery will remain necessary. However, it would be best if you stick to the doctor's advice to get the preferred results.
