The life expectancy for malignant ascites the accumulation of cancerous fluid in abdomen differs greatly and depends on several factors such as nature of underlying cancer, stage at which it is detected , patient’s health status etc. Since malignant ascites is frequently seen in established cancer, it can be considered a symptom of worse prognosis. Issues pertaining to the progression of malignancy, complications arising from ascites and effectiveness of treatments may be a problem for patients with malignant ascites. The emphasis is on palliative care to deal with symptoms and improve quality of life. However, survival rates vary case by case and it is important to talk to your oncologist about prognosis , treatment alternatives, supportive care measurements.
